JUPITER, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled a historic commitment to funding services for individuals with unique abilities in Florida, with a record-breaking investment exceeding $2.2 billion going towards the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. The funding, allocated through the iBudget waiver program, aims to provide a range of essential services including social, medical, behavioral, and therapeutic support for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

In his announcement, Governor DeSantis emphasized his dedication to ensuring all Floridians have access to quality services to reach their full potential, stating, "As Governor, I will continue to ensure every Floridian has access to high-quality services to create a pathway to live up to their God-given potential and realize the American Dream."

The significant financial commitment includes various allocations, such as nearly $200 million to support iBudget waiver providers, $64.8 million to assist additional individuals in crisis, and $55.7 million to enroll individuals in pre-enrollment categories. Furthermore, over $40 million has been earmarked for community projects supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities, including $1 million designated for the Els Center of Excellence recreational complex, which caters to the sensory needs of children with autism.

Agency for Persons with Disabilities Director Taylor Hatch commended Governor DeSantis for his leadership, stating, "Governor DeSantis delivers results, there is no better way to celebrate Autism Awareness Month than to highlight today’s announcement of record investments on behalf of the disability community." Hatch emphasized the transformative impact of the funding, highlighting its role in empowering individuals and families to thrive through partnerships and community support.

Additionally, Governor DeSantis revealed a surge in participation in Florida's Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities, which has seen enrollment numbers soar from around 25,000 students in 2021 to nearly 100,000 students presently. The scholarship initiative offers families of students with unique abilities access to diverse educational options, starting as young as three years old, to ensure tailored environments that meet each child's specific needs.
